Spine And Back Pain
Once an injury to the spine has occurred, regular, often persistent back pain can follow; affecting almost every type of activity, only back pain relief medication seems to help for a while. Whilst prescription pain relief pills may in fact dull the pain to a manageable degree, they do not treat the root cause of the problem. Long term medication of pain killers is something that should be supervised as other problems can occur because of their continued use.
The reason back problems are so common is because it is so easy to injure the spine; it is not uncommon for a person to cause permanent damage from just lifting something incorrectly. Of course the most common way to injure your spine is by lifting heavy weights or lifting them incorrectly. Many people are now turning to other methods of gaining back pain relief which do not include the use of drugs.
Stretching the back is often the simplest method of relief, stretching your back gently can relax your back muscles preventing them from becoming tense. Another type of treatment called reflexology uses a massage technique applied to the feet; some people are now discovering its benefits as a back pain remedy. Relaxing muscles and increasing the effectiveness of the circulatory system are two other reasons to use reflexology.
Although acupuncture is an age old Chinese medical practice that has been used for thousands of years, it is only recently that the Western world has accepted it as an alternative form of back pain relief. Followers of traditional Chinese medicine are of the belief that every person has an inner energy force (chi) that reflects of our state of health, mental and physical. Chi is blocked in a sick body but needles inserted into specific points, ease many types of pain and the flow of energy. There are large numbers of people that use acupuncture on a regular basis and claim it works well for them providing pain relief; especially those who have what is termed a chronic condition.
Relief can also come from another Chinese treatment like tai chi which is a form of yoga but not so strenuous. Tai Chi is however very gentle and easily performed by young and older people. It focuses on breathing exercises with additional stretching movements. To finish, it is a good idea not to forget the huge benefits that exercise can bring in providing back pain relief; it not only helps to ensure the back is more flexible but can prevent spinal problems as well.
